PI = Positive Ignition, CI = Compression Ignition
(3) For positive ignition, particulate mass and number of particles limit shall apply only
to vehicles with direct injection engines.
(4) Until three years after date of implementation for new type approvals and new

vehicles, particle number emission limit of 6.0 x 10 #/km shall apply to BS VI
gasoline direct injection vehicles upon choice of the manufacturer.
Note : This Regulation shall apply to vehicles of categories M1, M2, N1 and N2 with a
reference mass not exceeding 2,610 kg.
At the manufacturer’s request, type approval granted under this Regulation may be
extended from vehicles mentioned above to M1, M2, N1 and N2 vehicles with a reference
mass not exceeding 2,840 kg and which meet the conditions laid down in this notification.
